Critical Care

The Critical Care Department offers 24x7 care to patients in potentially life-threatening conditions, requiring life support system and other intensive medical interventions. The patients with dysfunction or failure of one or more organ systems, like cardiac, pulmonary, neurology, liver and kidney, amongst others are admitted to a Critical Care Unit (CCU). Our experienced multidisciplinary team provides state-of-the-art patient care with promptness and compassion. The team comprises of trained, efficient and skilled staff in critical care medicine.

Medical Procedure

Hematocrit Test:

Hematocrit (he-MAT-uh-krit) is the total volume of red blood cells in your body. Hematocrit (Hct) test determines whether the red blood cell count in your body is deficit or surplus. RBCs or erythrocytes (uh-RITH-roe-sites), are responsible for transporting oxygen throughout a human body.

A hematocrit test is segment of a complete blood count (CBC). The proportion of RBCs compared with total blood cells. It helps doctors to make a diagnosis or monitor your body's acceptance to a treatment.

Haemoglobin Test:

This test is to measure the proportion of haemoglobin in your blood. Haemoglobin is a form of protein that is present in RBCs responsible for carrying oxygen to the organs & tissues and taking carbon dioxide from them back to lungs. Normal level of haemoglobin should be: In Male 13.5 to 17.5 grms per decilitre and in Female 12.0 to 15.5 grms per deciliter. If your haemoglobin is lower than the normal level, it indicates that you have Anaemia (Low RBC count).

Prothrombin time Test:

Aprothrombin time test determines how fast your blood clots. It is also known as Pro time test or PT Test. Prothrombin is a protein manufactured by liver that helps in blood clotting. In case of any injury, prothrombin protein starts a chain of action that results in clotting to stop the bleeding. One of the steps of this process is prothrombin transforming into thrombin. The PT test calculates the time taken for the whole process and how well it works.


The Critical Care Department at Sadhna Hospital comes with a highly equipped & spacious exercise, therapy & Cardiac Rehabilitation room. The blood bank at Critical Care is capable of processing.

The blood bank has 'state of the art' equipment, fully automated, walk-away systems to reduce the human errors. To meet the International Standards of safety, the blood bank provides blood and components which are NAT tested, leucodepleted and antibody detected. Blood grouping, Rh phenotyping, antibody detection and electronic cross-match are done on automated machines in addition to the routine disease markers tests.

The calibration of machines / validation of results are carried out regularly to meet NABH and JCI criteria by way of External / Internal controls and meet the international standards. Majority of the Donors are Voluntary, meeting strict criteria of selection. Donors to Recipient chains are regulated with Bar-Code System.

The services of the blood bank are available 24x7 including Sundays and Holidays. In addition to the in-house services the blood bank provides support to the other affiliated hospitals for their need of blood/blood components.
